A message from Anne
The world (and also, any company or team) needs more people who are doers, critical thinkers, and empathetic collaborators. Don’t worry too much about acquiring very specific knowledge or terms. Rather, seek out opportunities to build things that solve problems for people by working with a team. Keep doing that, and you’ll be successful
A valuable skill
Product management is many things, but it’s largely about asking “what are we solving for” and figuring out how best to solve a given problem. I really believe approach can be productive in many roles and contexts, and is harder than it sounds. So often, the current will push you towards a particular solution. It takes a certain amount of courage and thoughtfulness to be the one to step back and gut check, “What are we solving for? Have we validated that we have a good grasp on the problem?” And also, “will this solution definitely solve the problem.” A second important skill is strong communication, which follows you through your career. Whether you’re communicating via email, a project doc, a deck, a presentation, you need to think through what you’re trying to say, and what data points you have to support that point.
Hobbies
I live with my two sons and my husband in Jamaica Plain. In my free time I enjoy reading, hiking, and teaching barre at the Bar Method in Wellesley (I started taking class and working there while in college!)
