There is growth in discomfort. Before I switched to CS, I felt really anxious about not being able to pass my classes and not being technical or smart enough to understand the concepts. However, throughout my time at Wellesley, I realized that these thoughts were simply 'what if' questions that stemmed from my lack of confidence and imposter syndrome. I realized that being uncomfortable was part of my personal growth and that I should learn to embrace the discomfort and view it as an opportunity instead. There will be many, many, MANY times in your CS career where you will feel uncomfortable and that's OKAY. In fact, I got my first ever C in Data Structures and was devastated. The following semester, however, I was asked to tutor the class. I often wondered why, but then I realized that it was because I failed a lot and failing 100+ times means that I had found 100+ ways to not approach a problem. Embrace the challenge and, when it gets too hard, reach out to your community. You can do it if you put your mind to it. If I can do it, then so can you! In a world that often tells you 'no,' give yourself a chance and say 'yes.'
