You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. If you're too afraid to do something, ask yourself what is the worst that can happen and question if the worst case scenario is really all that bad. If you realize that the only thing holding you back is yourself, then you might as well try to prove yourself wrong.

A valuable skill

Communication is absolutely key whether its your personal life or professional life. This is something I learned early on as a backend SWE where even though I am dealing with things like real-time streaming, managing cluster resourcers, etc., I still need to be able to convey my thoughts, ideas, and situations adequately.
