A message from Joyce

If you see an opportunity that you want to make a career pivot and explore your passions, take it! I thought I wanted a career in the tech industry after graduating, but after a few years as a software engineer at Instagram, I realized I liked studying technology more than I liked making it. I ended up going back to graduate school in the social sciences and humanities. Making this career jump was daunting, but I've realized that taking risks and leaving my comfort zone has been much more intellectually fulfilling.

Valuable skill she regularly uses

The technical skills I picked up as a software engineer, combined with a liberal arts background from Wellesley, allows me to excel in my tech studies program in a more well-rounded and detailed way. As an aspiring historian of technology, I've found my technical training very useful in interpreting dense readings and archival records!

Hobbies and interests

I love crocheting, knitting, and hanging out with my cat.
