A message from Rachel
If you’ve made it to Wellesley, you can make it in tech. You belong at the table and you will find people who will champion you. Lean on the Wellesley network: for informational interviews, for help navigating your job once you’ve landed it, for how to grow your career, for support when you might doubt that you belong in tech, and for helping the next generation chart their path in tech.
Valuable skill she regularly uses
Python. There are so many skills beyond coding that I use regularly, but I use Python every day. I learned while I was doing my PhD and my postdoc. I wish, however, that I had been more reckless and bolder in my learning. Rather than being shy about showing my code to others, I would have developed this skill faster by getting constant feedback from others on how to improve.
Hobbies and interests
I love how data can be used to tell powerful stories about the world around us and help us understand our everyday lives. I really enjoy listening to podcasts (Fresh Air is my favorite), hiking, tide pooling, and meeting up for a really good brunch.
