A message from Samira

Being an outlier of any sort - gender, race, sexual identity, disability, or anything else that affects you, can be the biggest strength of yours. When I turned 30, I got diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Most of my time today is spent working on a technology company to help others who are going through the experience today.

Valuable skill she regularly uses

I'm working on a digital health company. As an undergrad student at Wellesley, I studied Art History. Here are the three things I remember from my time that I use on a daily basis:

  1. Build the thesis. Even in company creation, you need to have a thesis. I remember Professor Bedell teaching me what a thesis is.
  2. "Tersify". Another Wellesley Professor used to grade my papers and write the word "tersify" - make the communication shorter & crisper.
  3. Work as art. I ask myself - what if the product we build is a work of art?
