A message from Tina

Focus on building a strong technical foundation. But, don't forget that what makes you truly valuable and unique likely has little to do with how good you are at writing code. Your unique perspective, creativity, and the experiences that shape you are your greatest assets. Tech is just the medium you use to bring your individuality into the world. Find ways to integrate that into your work.

A valuable skill

One valuable skill I use regularly in my job is explaining code in plain English to people who may not have a technical background. It's important to be able to bridge the gap between technical complexity and clear communication, ensuring that everyone is on the same page. I developed this skill through practice—both in school and at work—by constantly discussing my projects with non-technical friends, classmates, colleagues, and sharing them online.
