A message from Yuling
There are plenty of resources and spaces out there available to support you (don't be afraid to seek them out!), but it's also important as a member of the CS community at Wellesley to find ways to support each other. Ultimately, we're all in this together to learn and find a path we love and are enthusiastic about, and building that community helps all of us.
A valuable skill
One of the most insightful things my program has taught me so far in terms of design thinking and not only thinking about human-centered design, but also life-centered design (so, expanding the scope of your design thinking to not just humans but the life around you). In particular for solving wicked problems, to think with a greater temporality and awareness for living things around you affords you a better landscape for not just solving problems, but finding the problems (or root causes) that need to be solved. Ultimately, designing is a craft, but it is also a way of envisioning a better future, and to do so, it is important to design for all life.
My Master's program has given me opportunities to harness these specific principles in specific capstone projects. Currently we are working with the Menominee Tribal Enterprises on the Design Horizons project, a project meant to address various financial, technological, and cultural concerns.
Hobbies
I like creative writing (perhaps even novel writing...maybe...), reading (and writing a LOT about reading), and video games :)
